Note: As of 5/5/13, Kinsale’s full backlist is now scheduled for audio release in 2013 and into 2014.
I’m thrilled to announce that it’s official. Laura Kinsale is coming to audio! Her entire backlist! And we won’t have to wait long as plans are to record all in 2013 with half released around mid-year.
Laura carefully chose Nicholas Boulton, an accomplished British actor, to narrate all twelve titles. I was quite excited when I checked out the sound clips from A Battle Won and David Copperfield over at Audible. Talk about a spectacularly sexy voice!
If you have been hanging around AudioGals or Speaking of Audiobooks, it’s likely you know of my wish to see Laura Kinsale in audio format. Her memorable tales are truly unique with a depth rarely seen in today’s romances. And now, to know I’m to hear her work in the very near future with an obviously talented male narrator? For this long time Kinsale fan, audio news doesn’t get any better than that.
Here’s what we have to look forward to:
Uncertain Magic 1987
Midsummer Moon 1987
Seize the Fire 1989
The Prince of Midnight 1990
The Shadow and the Star 1991
Flowers from the Storm 1992
For My Lady’s Heart 1993
The Dream Hunter 1994
My Sweet Folly 1997
Shadowheart 2004
Lessons in French 2010
It looks as though ten of these twelve titles are available in eBook format with six currently offered for $2.99 at Amazon. If you have yet to discover Laura Kinsale’s work, this is the perfect opportunity to introduce yourself to the magic of her writing. You’ll be even more prepared for all this listening we’ll do together in 2013!
Wondering about a place to start? Consider The Shadow and the Star, Flowers from the Storm, or Uncertain Magic. I’m currently reading The Prince of Midnight – another fascinating journey. This time it’s on my Kindle. Last time it was my worn out paperback copy. Next time – my iPod. Audio heaven.

I’ve actually never read a Kinsale book! I know, crazy, huh? I look forward to experiencing her in audio. ;-) And I love male narrators!!
This is very excellent news. My fave Kinsales are The Shadow and the Star, For My Lady’s Heart, and Shadow Heart.
But Lea, may I ask how did you come by this news? I received a Kinsale newsletter only a few days ago–a rarity, I can’t remember the previous time she sent anything out–and don’t remember it mentioning any upcoming audio books.
Is she doing this via a audio book publisher? Or is she doing it herself? (My audio books are produced by Recorded Books and I’ve never had the pleasure of choosing my own narrator.) If the latter, I’d love to know how people go about getting their own audiobooks made. Like how do you find a list of talents you can afford, a studio to get it done, and do you need an audio engineer etc.
Sherry – I received this news from Laura. I have been talking with her via email for a while now and she gave me the go-ahead to announce it at AudioGals. I’ll do the same at All About Romance on Tuesday.
Laura is talking about this on Twitter and has been giving us hints about audio possibilities for a while now. It looks as though we will talk publicly at a later time and she may focus on a few of the questions you asked. I’ll keep you informed and let her know of your questions.
BTW – I saw you had another audio release yesterday! I was excited to see Beguiling the Beauty!
I would love to be kept informed of Laura’s audio progress.
Recorded Books bought the entire Fitzhugh Trilogy (Beguiling the Beauty, Ravishing the Heiress, and Tempting the Bride) and they are all expected out some time in the spring and early summer of 2013, if memory serves.
My previous narrator was Virginia Leishmann (sp?) who I thought did an excellent job. I’m looking forward to seeing how the new narrator works out.
Virginia Leishman is one of the best narrators around when it comes to European historicals. I loved her narrations of your two previous audio titles.
It has been years since I listened to Jenny Sterlin but it’s something I’ll be doing soon with Beguiling the Beauty. I love hearing that Recorded Books will be releasing all three of the Fitzhugh trilogy!
Lea, I loved the clips of this narrator’s voice too! Excellent news! saving up credits, for sure.
and I just glommed the $2.99 ebooks. I have only read 3 of her books!
