Private Preview – The Prince of Midnight by Laura Kinsale and Giveaway

TPOM-print

It’s here – the event we’ve been anxiously awaiting! Laura Kinsale’s first audiobook, The Prince of Midnight, will be released any day now at Audible. And its release will be followed by the audio release of her full backlist – that’s twelve titles – in 2013-2014 with the magnificent Nicholas Boulton narrating all. The Gals heartily agree he is all you could want in a male narrator after listening to The Prince of Midnight. We’ll be talking about our delight in a Three Gal Chat on Wednesday. And our listeners outside of the United States will be thrilled to hear that these titles will be available worldwide!

The Private Preview

Laura desired a special Private Preview for those on her email list as well as the romance audiobook fans here at AudioGals. We’re not announcing it on Facebook or Twitter or Goodreads as we want you all to be the first to know. And to hear the new five minute sample.

From Laura:

I’ve decided to make The Prince of Midnight available because it’s the first book of mine that Nick recorded, and it’s so good I just can’t stand having it sitting there unheard for several more months. So Audible.com, the AudioGals and I are thrilled to give you all the chance to listen to this special early release. It was an astonishing experience for me personally to hear this—the first one—because I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I was bowled over, and I want to share that with you.

I chose the exceptional talent of Nicholas Boulton to narrate The Prince of Midnight as a fully voiced audiobook, creating a unique work that brings all the life and color of the original to audio. If you’ve read the book, then listening to the audio will be a bit like a great movie–the actor may not be quite what you imagined in your head, but it doesn’t take long before your can’t even remember what you imagined–Nick’s voice and his interpretation create their own reality.

The Giveaway

Along with this Private Preview, Laura is providing five prize packages for our Giveaway. Enter to win two Audible gift credits – one to download The Prince of Midnight and the second to use on the audiobook of your choice! We don’t know the exact day The Prince of Midnight will appear at Audible but our winners will be among the very first to listen as we will be watching closely and passing on the winners’ credits the day of its release. Details for entering are below.

The Blurb

He was once a legendary highwayman. Now he’s a recluse, living out his life in a ruined hideaway. When Lady Leigh Strachan comes looking for a man who can teach her how to wreak revenge on her enemy, she’s disgusted and disillusioned to find that the famed Prince of Midnight can hardly stand steady on his own two feet. S.T. Maitland wants nothing to do with his former criminal career, or with this fierce, beautiful, unhappy woman, until the old thrill of living on the cutting edge of danger begins to rise in his blood again.

  1. Lovely! So generous of Laura to offer us this wonderful opportunity! Prince of Midnight is a great book! Can’t wait to hear it in audiobook format, too!

  2. You already know how excited I am about this release :-) So all I will say is –

    SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

  3. Nick is amazingly talented, and Laura’s works are wonderful! I’m so excited to experience them together!

  4. Thank you Gals and of course Laura! I’m ready NOW to start listening!!! Sooo hard to be patient!!!!

  5. Great audio sample. The narrator is good. I love Simon Prebble the most but Nick sounds very good. Thanks for this preview.

  6. Wow, that excerpt really whetted my appetite for this release! The narrator sounds great and the scene was engrossing. It’s been quite awhile since I read this book but I loved it then and am excited to re-acquaint myself with it as an audiobook.

  7. This is my favorite all-time romance novel. I am so thrilled to have it on audio! I like that the narrator pronounces the French correctly, which is something I couldn’t do in my head as I read the book version. It makes it so rich and enjoyable. He has the perfect voice for this book.

  8. Am in the middle of “Midsummer Moon” right now, after having snagged it and “Seize the Fire” at my local bookstore after a long period looking for both titles.

I adore Merlin and her hedgehog, as much as I adored Sheridan and his baby penguin.

I’m so eager to finally get the chance to get to know “The Shadow and the Star” later when audio book is released; I think that may be the hardest title to find.

  9. Laura has no greater fan than moi, and I can’t wait to revisit these in audio. Though he’s going to have an interesting time with FOR MY LADY’S HEART.

  10. I wrote about audiobook covers at Speaking of Audiobooks recently. They don’t influence my decision to buy – I’ll buy a book if I want it regardless of the cover. But they may influence me to take a second look. And I offered praise for those books that actually indicated the audio’s content rather than the bare-chested hero or the clinch cover.

All that said, the cover of The Prince of Midnight immediately rose to the top of my “Best Audio Covers” list. The cover says so much about the nature of the book and its contents. Now that I have listened to it, seeing the cover invokes memories of this incredibly fine listen and makes my eye linger as I soak it up again.

  11. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a romance audiobook before so this is an intriguing opportunity. I’m also glad to discover this website and I look forward to reading the reviews. :)

  12. Would it be crass to say that this sample made me squirm a bit in my chair? ;O) Loved Nicholas Boulton and cannot wait to hear him read “For My Lady’s Heart”. And “The Shadow and the Star”. And “Seize the Fire”. And “Flowers from the Storm”. And…oh shoot…any and all of them.
