I’m listening to “Captivated” by Nora Roberts and narrated by Therese Plummer. I’m familiar with Plummer as she narrates Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series. I’m having a little trouble getting past some mispronunciations like “Carmel” ( she says carmmal) and the heroine’s family name is Donovan and Plummer says Dunavan……so annoying! It’s a shorty though, so I’ll get through it…..love La Nora’s “witches”.
On deck Tasha Alexanders “Only to Deceive” read by Kate Reading.
I had the same problem with the mispronunciations in Charmed, narrated by Cristina Panfillio. So maybe that’s the way it was intended? IDK but it was annoying. But, as you said, I love NR “witches”.
That’s interesting. I loved Charmed in print, but Cristina Panfillo is unknown to me and with the mispronunciations I just don’t know…..
“The Proposition” by Judith Ivory (2000) read by Steven Crossley. This is one engaging, funny, sexy, charming story. This is Pygmalion reversed with the shy, sensitive, highly intelligent “Professor” as a 30 year old tall, uptight 30 year old virgin. Lady Edwina is almost six feet tall with zero self confidence. She’s a linguist who makes a living helping the gentry smooth out their country accents and polish young ladies approaching their “come outs.” She accepts the challenge of transforming the very charming tall, dark, virile, and handsome, Mick Tremore, from an East End Rat Catcher with some education into a gentleman who can pass as a viscount at an earl’s ball 6 weeks after the beginning of his make-over. Mick’s smart, brash and a very fast learner and oh, so very attractive. He’s also got loads of self confidence. The push-pull of the Mick and Winnie (so dubbed by Mick) is fun to follow with vivid descriptions and excellent narration by Steven Crossley. There’s never any doubt with who is speaking. I’m 75% through the book and am anticipating one or two surprises at the ball, confusion and misunderstandings until the two lovers realize that despite their class differences they can create a HEA. Unless the author drops the ball during the last chapters I am anticipating giving this one five stars all the way around. This is a fun, sexy (earbuds would be a good idea) romp!
Gale Ann – I’m a big fan of Judith Ivory books and The Proposition is an audio treasure. Wish her titles under the name Judy Cuevas would be picked up for audio production as well.
The surprise at the end was very cool. I LOVED this book. It will be the only one I want to read again. I never go back and re-watch movies or re-read/re-listen to books. I’m glad you know the writer’s work, Lea.
