Many of us are doing relistens and revisits to older releases this week – sometimes a comfort read is just what the doctor ordered!

Doing some Virgin River series re-listens.
Relistening to A Desperate Fortune by Susanna Kearsley. One of my all time favorites.
I’m listening to The Most Dangerous Duke In London by Madeline Hunter. I read the third book in this series on Kindle a couple of weeks ago (Never Deny a Duke) and gave it a B on Goodreads. I’m enjoying this one so far, although I’m not in love with the narrator, Charlotte Grey. Nothing egregious, just some lack of skill in differentiating between prose and conversations, for example.
I just read your review of this book here and realized what was really bothering me about Grey’s narration. YES! Her voice is too young and her range is shallow. I don’t dislike it as much as you did, but I don’t think I’d listen to anything else she narrated.
I haven’t listened to her since – I don’t know if she’s done much else; I wasn’t interested enough to find out! But yes, I recall her voice being very monochromatic and completely unsuited to the material. It’s a shame because I remember liking the book quite a bit.
For the past week, I have be relistening to the Rockliffe series by Stella Riley. I had not listened to the last two books in the series and I wanted to be familiar with everyone’s stories. What a pleasure! I have just started the last one, Cadenza.
It is true, sometimes one needs a familiar, comfort read with a favorite narrator to get through the night.
So true, Jean.
Stella Riley has been my most wonderful find of 2020! I’ve listened to the first 4 books of the Rockcliffe series and also The Marigold Chain, which is awesome. I’ve been waiting to listen to Hazard, mostly to have something to look forward to, and as a reward for getting some things done around the house! LOL!
My second most wonderful author find is K. J. Charles, so all in all it’s been a good year for me that way.
I’m so glad – you’ve got some terrific books to catch up on!
I have been listening to a beloved favorite series, Lisa Kleypas’ Hathaways series. Perfect auditory comfort food for me!
I’m listening to Eli Easton’s Howl At the Moon series and loving the fun, gentle and kind stories and the wonderful narration.
I abandoned Anyta Sunday’s excellent Sign’s of Love series – the narrator Rudy Sanda is unlistenable – so disappointing – and he does the whole series!
Gah – it’s so disappointing when narrators don’t meet your expectations ☹️. I have yet to read anything by Eli Easton (and Anyta Sunday) but they’re are both on my radar.
oh my goodness you are in for a treat if you have yet to try Eli Easton – when you’re in the mood for low angst, kind, humorous m/m – pretty sure from your reviews she’s someone you’ll really enjoy!
I’ll definitely check something of hers out, thanks for the rec.
