Continuing our Best of 2020 series, Kaetrin shares her favorites from 2020 – lots of great choices here!
I enjoyed this book so much and the narration by Charlotte North was just perfection.
Buy A Princess for Christmas by Jenny Holiday on AmazonDavina Porter is a fabulous narrator and I continue to be invested in the Sebastian St. Cyr series. The 2020 release was no exception.
Buy Who Speaks for the Damned by C. S. Harris on AmazonThis book made my top list in both audio and print – because as soon as I finished it, I started an epic Mercy Thompson world re-read. That probably tells you all you need to know.
Buy Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs on AmazonMary Jane Wells is a favourite narrator and the Ravenels series is now also a favourite listen. While Tom Severin was no West Ravenel, he did give West a run for his money.
Buy Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas on AmazonI didn’t review this one but it was easily a top listen for the year. The only reason Vol 1 isn’t on this list as well is that it was released in 2019 – past me wasn’t bright enough to snap it up immediately. Nick Hudson is definitely a narrator to watch and the worldbuilding in this series is refreshing and fun. Start at Vol 1 though as the linked novellas tell a continuing story.
Buy The ABCs of Spellcraft by Jordan Castillo Price on AmazonMy first Lily Morton audio but definitely not my last. I was so impressed by the characterisation added to the listening experience by Joel Leslie’s narration as well.
Buy Oz by Lily Morton on AmazonI’ll have a review of this one up soon but the TL;DR is it’s fantastic – a definite recommend.
Gentleman Wolf by Joanna Chambers is available at Author’s Direct, Apple Books, Google Play, Audiobooks.com and other vendors.
I’m listening to The Governess Game by Tessa Dare right now, and it’s narrated by Mary Jane Wells. I think this is the first time I’ve listened to her, and I’m so impressed! I’m not sure I would have been very impressed with the book in print, but Well’s active and engaging narration make up for a lot of so-so plotting. I’m definitely gong to be looking out for more books narrated by her.
I haven’t read Oz, but I did listen to my first two Lily Morton books this fall, Rule Breaker and Deal Maker. I thoroughly enjoyed them and Joel Leslie is a wonderful narrator.
It’s been years since I read a Mercy Thompson book, although I really enjoyed them. I’m thinking about rereading them since it’s been so long I’d definitely need some recap of the characters and stories, but it’s also pretty daunting to think of going back through the whole series to catch up. Decisions!
Thanks for your list! I always love to see everyone’s “best of” lists.
I did an epic Mercyverse re-read last year – I read all the Mercy books, the graphic novels and the Alpha & Omega books in order of events and it was SO WORTH IT.
Mary Jane Wells narrates most of the recent Tessa Dare books and also the Ravenels series from Lisa Kleypas and they’re all great so you have a lot of fabulous listening ahead of you!
When I read the Mercy books the first time, I got almost all of them from the library. I don’t generally get ebooks from the library unless they can be downloaded to my kindle. I may wait until I can physically check out the books again before doing a read-through. It’s very tempting considering how much I enjoyed that series.
And thanks for the Mary Jane Wells rec’s. I’ll be sure to look them up!
