Our February 2021 Picks

It’s time for the Gals to share with you, our dear reader (!), the spoils of our eager scouring of all the new release lists. Yes, it’s Monthly Picks time, and here is our selection of the new and upcoming audio releases we’re most excited to listen to over the coming weeks. As usual, we’ve got a mixture of standalones and onging series titles, books by favourite authors, favourite narrators or about which we just thought “that sounds interesting so what the hell..?” As always this is a list that reflects each Gals’ personal taste and is far – VERY far – from being comprehensive, but hopefully, you’ll find something here to take your fancy. I’ve already bought and listened to this one!  With the exception of one plot point I could have done without, I think this book is closer to the traditional KA style I originally fell in love with than many of KA’s recent releases. – BJ

I enjoy both narrators and love this author so this one is a no brainer for me. – Kaetrin

 

 

Love at First by Kate Clayborn

Narrated by Lauren Ezzo

I read an ARC of this one and it’s simply lovely; a quiet story about love at first sight and how it can change over the years. I haven’t listened to Lauren Ezzo before, but I know she’s a very experienced romance narrator. – Caz

 

The Seven Series Boxed Set (Books 1-3) by Dannika Dark

Narrated by Nicole Poole

PNR/UF lovers who have not yet had the pleasure of listening to the Seven series will want to jump on this deal! Audible is releasing a box set of the first 3 books (Seven Years, Six Months, and Five Days). That’s nearly thirty-five hours of one of my favorite PNR/UF Series of all time for just one credit! –  BJ

 

Blindsided by Victoria Denault

Narrated by Teddy Hamilton & Erin Mallon

A Lady’s Formula for Love by Elizabeth Everett

Narrated by Elizabeth Jasicki

I’m hearing good things about this début, in which a lady scientist falls in love with her protection officer. I’m not familiar with the narrator, but she’s recorded a fair bit of historical romance, so fingers crossed. – Caz

Another new to me author but it promises to be a historical bodyguard story (but with HEA of course.) – Kaetrin

This book has received a ton of positive buzz, and I’m eager to give it a try. It’s a historical featuring a female scientist and the man hired to protect her. I’m hoping for good things from both the story and the narration. – Shannon

 

Wicked All Night by Jeaniene Frost

A new Night Huntress World audiobook! I have thoroughly enjoyed both the writing and narration of the books in this series! – BJ

 

The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah

Narrated by Julia Whelan

I enjoy Julia Whelan’s narrations and enjoyed Kristin Hannah’s last release (The Great Alone), and the blurb for this new historical fiction title – set in the era of the Great Depression -drew me in, so I just knew I had to listen to it soon!  – BJ

Kristin Hannah is an author I can’t resist, and the setting for The Four Winds, the dust bowl era of the Great Depression, fascinates me. Julia Whelan is superb, so my hopes are super high for this release. – Shannon

 

Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell

Narrated by Raphael Corkhill

Another one I’ve heard good things about and am looking forward to listening to! – Caz

Queer space opera with a marriage of convenience – I am so here for it!! A new to me narrator but he sounds good on the sample. – Kaetrin

 

The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Meissner

Narrated by Alana Kerr Collins

I’ve loved several of Meissner’s previous books, and the blurb for this one caught my eye late last year. My experiences with narrator Alana Kerr Collins have been positive. Needless to say, I pre-ordered this one as soon as it became available at Audible. – Shannon

 

Best Laid Plans by Roan Parrish

Narrated by Greg Boudreaux

The last couple of books from this pair (Rend and Invitation to the Blues) have been fantastic, so I’m hoping for more of the same! – Caz

I love romances that feature social media influencers, so First Comes Like seems like it will be perfect for me. Both narrators are new to me, but the synopsis looks good enough to make me take a chance. – Shannon

 

The Duke Heist by Erica Ridley

Narrated by Moira Quirk

I’ve no experience with this author but I’m very intrigued by the blurb and early buzz. – Kaetrin

 

 

Lord of the Fading Lands and Lady of Light and Shadow by C.L. Wilson

Narrated by Abby CradenBoth out this month too and I recall loving this series a while back so I’m keen to try it on audio and see if it holds up. – Kaetrin

 

 

Love is a Stranger by John Wiltshire

Narrated by Gary Furlong

You could tell me Gary Furlong was going to narrate the phone book and I’d probably pick it up ;) This is another of those books that’s been on my TBR for ages but I haven’t got to yet, so I was delighted to see it coming to audio. It’s the first in an eight-part series about the same couple – an ex-SAS officer and his enigmatic boss – in what promises to be a cross between a spy thriller and an epic love story. I’m SO here for it. – Caz
