I started this week with the second Tyack and Frayne book by Harper Fox, Tinsel Fish. I enjoyed it as much or more than the first one. I’ll probably go on to the next, although I admit even though I like them as a couple, I don’t feel real committed to the ongoing story.
Next I listened to White Trash Warlock by David R. Slayton, narrated by David Axtell. This book was unusual in some ways that are difficult to put my finger on, but I really enjoyed it! The story meandered a bit, but in retrospect the meanderings help with world building and character development. The main character, Adam,so written in such a realistic way. He’s not written as hero material, even though at heart he’ll do what’s necessary. I found him a fascinating character. David Axtell does a great job with the narration. No complaints.
Right now I’min the middle of Honeymoon for One by Keira Andrews, narrated by Joel Leslie. So far it’s an interesting age-gap story about a young, partially deaf man who takes his Australian honeymoon alone after his relationship breaks up.
I’m glad you enjoyed White Trash Warlock – Adam is such a great character and somewhat different for the genre (although I’m no expert) because he’s not powerful or massively special (although I suspect that might change somewhere along the line). I don’t know how many books will be in the series, but I definitely plan to continue with it.
I enjoyed the T&F books and have reviewed some here; Tinsel Fish is one of my favourites.
Carrie, Honeymoon for One is a comfort read for me – I’ve listened to it a couple times. The building relationship between the wound kinda tight younger man and the kind, laid back tour bus driver was really lovely.
I just finished it and I would agree. I thought both characters and their stories were well done and believable. And Joel Leslie does his usual wonderful job with the narration.
Oh I just listened to that one a week or so ago! It was delightful. JL did a great job (as usual) and the characters were so well drawn. I can definitely see it being a comfort re-listen.
Just finished up “The Best Men” by Sarina Bowen and Lauren Blakely, narrated by Jacob Morgan and Teddy Hamilton. It definitely hit all of my happy buttons. Not only are the narrators at the top of their game, but the story doesn’t wallow in angst, which I just don’t have the mental/emotional space for at the moment. I stayed up late two nights in a row to listen to “just one more chapter”, so I guess that fits the bill of a good listen. :)
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I read the prequel short and thought the writing was terrible, so I’m glad to hear it’s better in the full length work. I’m still a little wary because Lauren Blakely is mostly miss with me, the one hit being Understatement of the Year. I may wait to see if this goes on sale at some point.
Um… Understatement of the Year is by Sarina Bowen, so LB still hasn’t had a hit with you! If I do pick up The Best Men and it’s decent, I’ll let you know. But after the last few LB m/m books, I’m not rushing towards it. She’s just jumping on the m/m bandwagon as far as I can tell and is basically writing m/f with two male leads.
Haha! Thanks for the correction! Most days I’m happy my brain works at all!
I’ll wait to see if you review it.
