Currently I’m listening to SHOTGUN WEDDING by Barbara Catlin–a story that’s both touching and funny. It’s narrated by Jim Cooper, and I decided, early on, that he’s the best narrator I’ve ever heard! He’s doing every voice in the book, yet you never have a problem figuring out who’s speaking. What a treat!
I’m having trouble accessing this site. Yesterday I couldn’t at all. I hope it stays put long enough to get the post written.
This week I listened to the novella Rare Danger by Beverly Jenkins, narrated by Kim Staunton. I gave both B-. It was a good plot but not enough time to develop it. Ms. Staunton was good, but it felt more like someone reading expressively than voice acting, if you get what I mean.
Right now I’m about halfway through The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman, narrated by Lesley Manville. The narration is excellent and the story entertaining, if a bit rambling. Even with the excellent narration, I sort of wish I’d read this one so I could speed read through some of the rambling bits. Very character driven even with the murder mystery plot. Interesting things to say about aging, community, parent-child relationships, etc., without sounding preachy.
Listening to Nightwork by Nora Roberts
