Our February 2024 Picks

Time to take a look at the new and upcoming releases the Gals are most looking forward to listening to over the next few weeks. As usual, our selection is a mere drop in the ocean of audiobook releases, but we hope you’ll find something here to tempt you!

The Spoil of Beasts by Gregory AsheThe Spoil of Beasts by Gregory Ashe

Narrated by Charlie David

Book three in the author’s amazing crossover series, Iron on Iron, sees the Borealis boys – North and Shaw – taking centre stage as the investigation into the trafficking operation continues.  I read the book on its release at the end of 2023; the story is clever, twisty and gritty as it appears that someone is continually one step ahead and that no matter what they do, our guys just can’t catch a break.  Charlie David – the original narrator of the Borealis books – returns to the narrator’s chair for this instalment; I think we’ve all been thoroughly spoiled by having JF Harding kick off the series (with two books), so I’ll be interested to hear how Mr. David tackles the challenge of voicing eight leading men! – Caz

Fangirl Down by Tessa BaileyFangirl Down by Tessa Bailey

Narrated by Callie Dalton

Early buzz on this one says it’s at least as good as It Happened One Summer which is my favourite Tessa Bailey so I’m in. – Kaetrin

Waiting for the Flood by Alexis HallWaiting for the Flood by Alexis Hall

Narrated by Will Watt

Rather like last month’s reissue of Glitterland, this new edition of book two in the Spires series, Waiting for the Flood, includes bonus material not previously available in audio – principally a brand new novella, Chasing the Light.  I was delighted to see Will Watt listed as the narrator – his performance in 10 Things That Didn’t Happen was outstanding and I can’t wait to listen to him again here. – Caz

I’m looking forward to revisiting this with Will Watt as narrator, and I’m very curious about the second novella which is about Marius (Edwin’s ex from Waiting for the Flood). – Carrie

Simply the Best by Susan Elizabeth PhillipsSimply the Best by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Narrated by Nicole Poole

I can’t wait to listen to this latest addition to one of my all-time favorite romance series. SEP/Chicago Stars was my gateway to romance, way back when! Nicole Poole has done a great job picking up from the late Kate Fleming/Anna Fields (whose talent was totally amazing). – Melinda

Hannah Tate, Beyond Repair by Laura Piper LeeHannah Tate, Beyond Repair by Laura Piper Lee

This looks cute and fun – Kaetrin

The Last Days of Lilah Goodluck by Kylie ScottThe Last Days of Lilah Goodluck by Kylie Scott

When Grumpy Met Sunshine by Charlotte SteinWhen Grumpy Met Sunshine by Charlotte Stein

Narrated by Emily Spowage

I had the pleasure of reading this in print. It’s fantastic. – Kaetrin

FrostbittenFrostbitten by Rebecca Zanetti by Rebecca Zanetti

Narrated by Stephen Bourne

I’ve enjoyed the previous books in the Deep Ops series about former FBI profiler Angus Force and his team of misfits, and was pleased to see there would be a story for Marine-turned-lawyer, Scott and gadgets wizard, Millie. I was a bit disappointed not to see Roger Wayne’s name listed as narrator, but fingers crossed, Stephen Bourne will do as good a job. – Caz

Apologies…

At this point in the proceedings, we usually include a list of other new releases we think may interest our readers, but unfortunately, weeding out the massive number of “virtual voice” recordings that have inundated Audible (where we get most of our new release information from)  over the past couple of months has made this a much more time-consuming task, and time has been tight this month.  Please do drop by to give us a head’s up on the new titles YOU’RE most looking forward to listening to soon – and fingers crossed, we’ll be able to bring this feature back next month.
