With those narrators, I wish I’d listened to BOOKLOVER, instead of reading it.
I listened to CLARITY OF LINES by N.K. Walker, narrated by Nick Russo. I enjoyed the first one of the trilogy immensely and the second one didn’t disappoint. I have the third one lined up. I also listened to TAXES AND TARDIS from the same duo, and it was a sweet, enjoyable story.
Next was TOP SECRET by Serina Bowen and Elle Knnedy, narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Christian Fox. The narration was excellent as expected, but the story was a little more sober. It was definitely humorous at times, but it dealt with some sad/stressful issues. It was well done and I definitely enjoyed it once I adjusted my expectations.
Right now I’m listening to HER LORD AND SPYMASTER by Joanna Bourne, narrated by Kristen Potter. First off, I want to say that Potter is really incredible here. I can’t even begin to say how well she does with the nuances and emotions. Her narration is definitely increasing my enjoyment of the book. While I’m enjoying the beautiful prose and narration, and the spy story , I’m not sold on the romance, and for once I wish more time was spent on the hunt for Cinq than on the relationship between Sebastian and Jess. I don’t care for his “I’m going to have you, it’s just a matter of time” attitude or Jess’s “I’m fooling myself, I powerless to resist.” I really like Jess’s character a lot until she’s around Sebastian.
The narration in Booklover was definitely the best thing about it. I’ve now read or listened to all the m/m books in the V&V series (there are, I think, six more to come in August, but I don’t know if any will make it to audio) and the best, IMO, are the Leigh, Witt and Hogan. All of them are big hitters on m/m romance,
whereas most of the others (except Annabeth Albert and Eden Finley) are lesser knowns… but sadly, their entries haven’t inspired me to seek out more of their work.
I read Taxes and TARDIS a while back and enjoyed it, but I’ve heard NJR’s English accent in other things, and decided not to listen to the audio! I’ve heard worse but still…
