Even though Black Friday seems to have become a Thing worldwide, for most people on my side of the Pond (at least) yesterday was… just another Thursday. To those of you for whom it was more than that, here’s hoping you had a good day and aren’t suffering as a result of overindulgence!
Here’s what the Gals are listening to this week.

Kaetrin

Melinda

This week I listened to Gideon by Lily Morton, narrated by Joel Leslie. In print I gave it a C+ because I didn’t connect with Gideon at all. But Joel Leslie’s narration really makes a difference here. He is so good at bring out the emotions of the characters and I found myself understanding and connecting to both Gideon and Eli this time. I raised by grade to a solid B.
I listened to The Gilded Cage by KJ Charles, and while it wasn’t my favorite by her, I still enjoyed it. Great, complex characters and an interesting plot. I felt like the murder mystery could have been more front and center and more developed. Cornell Collins was amazing as usual, even though I don’t think female voices are his strength. Victoria Aston was quite good except I didn’t think her voice for Templeton was very strong. B
Voyageurs by Keira Andrews was next, narrated by Joel Leslie. I loved it and only wish it was longer.
Lastly was American Fairytale by Adriana Herrera, narrated by Sean Crisden. It’s a great story and the narration is superb. A-
Not sure what’s next. I have Charles’ Unfit to Print and Herrera’s American Love Story on Hoopla, so probably one of them.
I’ve listened to Victoria Aston once or twice – she’s good, but I agree her male voices aren’t great. Cornell Collins’ female voices have improved since the first time I listened to him doing one, but I’ve heard better. Still, he does everything else so well, he can be forgiven ;)
My listen this week actually showed up in Audible Plus here (it was rec’d to me by a friend a while back) and I’m really enjoying it. It’s UF with “romantic elements” as opposed to the romance being front and centre, but the story is really good and the narrator – who is new to me – is doing a great job.
